Xiaomi India, however, didn't respond to ET's queries.

The company recently began covering its retail store branding with 'Made in India' logo in white colour amid fears of vandalism at outlets in the backdrop of the Sino-India border tension.

Xiaomi India MD Manu Kumar Jain told ET last week that the
smartphone market leader was more Indian in spirit than any Indian smartphone company, having made large investments in the past four years under the Make in India scheme.

Traders’ body Confederation of All India Traders (
CAIT), however, slammed Jain for his comments on anti-China sentiment, terming it as ‘insensitive and disrespectful statement’.
