NASHIK<\/a>: The zilla parishad (ZP) has decided to provide land parcels to Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd<\/a> (BSNL<\/a>) at 32 locations across rural Nashik to set up 4G towers.

These 4G towers would help resolve mobile connectivity<\/a> issues in the rural areas of Nashik district. ZP officials said the state government has decided to grant land parcels to the government-owned telecommunications company.

All the land parcels approved so far are within the gaothan areas, as in they are in village areas.

Nashik ZP CEO Ashima Mittal<\/a> said this will provide better network connectivity to the village residents. So far, the Nashik ZP has approved 10 proposals and the work to clear the remaining 22 proposals is underway.

Mobile connectivity is a major problem in rural areas, especially in hilly regions. In many places, residents have to walk to a particular location to make phone calls. ZP officials said BSNL’s 4G towers would ensure that village residents get good mobile connectivity, which would, in turn, help them access various other services that are available on cellphones.

Internet services are of great utility for schools and health institutes. Due to poor access to internet in some villages, school students’ education gets affected. Better mobile connectivity will help such students. Similarly, other government programmes, like telemedicine services — in which residents of remote villages can contact speciality doctors of the Nashik civil hospital for advice and medicines — can also be implemented effectively once mobile connectivity improves.
